Scott Pilgrim VS. The Ginx Blog

Scott Pilgrim Vs the Ginx Blog

Hope everyone is enjoying the new site. A whole lotta love went into its creation and it’s still a work in progress, but it’s a perfect hub for our impending global empire. Soon the Ginx shall inherit the earth…

I finally got round to reading Scott Pilgrim recently. I’ve been aware of their existence for quite some time, and I loved the film for a thousand years (obscure little Plumtree reference there!), so it’s nothing short of scandalous that I’ve waited so long to read the graphic novels. If you’re not familiar, there are six books in total, each more epic than the last. I love the deceptively simple manga-inspired black and white artwork and as someone not so much steeped as totally saturated in gaming culture, the hundreds of videogame and pop culture references make for many stern looks on the train; laughing out loud is almost completely unavoidable. No, really. Resistance is futile.

Looking past all the flaming swords and ninjas and Sex Bob-omb and subspace doors to Canada, it really is a sweet little story about love and relationships for the gaming generation.  I couldn’t tell you how many Evil Exes I’ve battled in my time, but that’s a story for another day. If you haven’t had the chance to have a look at the Scott Pilgrim series yet, do it now – or Nega Ginx will get you…

Another comic book series I read recently is All Star Superman. If, like me, you thought that Supes was essentially a little bit boring as superheroes go, look this series up. Running for twelve issues from 2005 till 2008 and written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely, it’s perfect as stand-alone reading for someone to get to the root of what the Man of Steel is really all about. After Lex Luthor tricks Superman into exposing himself to toxic levels of solar energy, Kal-El finds he has only a short time left to live. This leads to conflicts and closures to face in both his life as Clark and as Superman. Obviously, I won’t spoil it all here, but it’s brilliant stuff – I powered through it in one sitting. Comic Book Resources recently reported on the animated adaptation with an interview with Grant Morrison; will anyone here be checking it out?

You should check out the

You should check out the retro side-scrolling beat'em up they created to help promote this too. It's a bit like Scott Pilgrim Vs Streets of Rage, good old fashioned button mashing fest of special moves, power ups, and boss battles, and the soundtrack isn't bad either. I hadn't read any of the comics so that's probably why the game made no sense to me haha I may look them up now!
